COVID Update

Update from July 30, 5 PM

“When will we regather for public corporate worship again?”  With almost all of our sister churches in the city of Houston, we are wrestling with that question.  We would love to come back right away.  Two factors have shaped our thinking.  First, not the number of Covid positive cases but the percentage of positives from the tests taken tells us something about the “community spread.”  When we moved to on-line again that number had left the boundaries which we thought to be safe.  Instead of only four or five percent positives the number jumped into the double digits.  The second factor was the surge of hospital cases.  Again, many people test positive and never go to the hospital.  But the Memorial Herrmann system jumped in number of total patients from three or four hundred Covid patients to over a thousand in a very short time.  This was again a sign of community spread and serious cases.  Thankfully, the trend line on those two statistics has begun to recede.  We would like to link our decision not to our feelings about the situation but to some objective standard.  For instance when we move from the highest level alert to a lower level, this could be a helpful index for us.  We believe if the current trends continue we will be able to reconvene in the near future, though no date has been set yet.  We will meet with our task force again in the near future and will communicate our best understanding.  Thank you for praying.  Thank you for staying safe and helping others to stay safe in this time.   We love this Tallowood family and I look forward to meeting with you publicly again soon.  We miss you greatly! Worship Details
Every Sunday– The traditional worship will meet at 8:45 AM and the contemporary worship will meet at 11:15 AM. Both of these services will be available on livestream only. Will will update this information when we are going to begin meeting back on campus.
Connect Groups – We encourage you to continue to meet online via Zoom or some other online platform. We recognize that each Connect Group will need to determine the best time for their group to meet. No decisions have been made on when Connect Groups will be able to re-gather on campus. We face a number of limitations related to social distancing guidelines (space, capacity, children and preschool, etc.).

Preschool, Kids, and Students have sent online lesson plans and activities. Check out the resource guide page for ways to stay connected. Be sure to participate in the Close Connection Challenge.

Church Campus:

A limited number of staff members are working in the office during the week. Ministers continue to be available by cell phone and email. Some ministers and staff are working from home. Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have a ministry need.

Ministry Emphasis:

The Daily Devotional and Social Media posts will continue to provide encouragement on ways we can safely minister to our neighbors. As always we have the opportunity to be salt and light and share the hope that we have in our relationship with Jesus Christ. We encourage you to pray for your neighbors, do prayer walks, leave a note on their door, and find ways to bless them. Again, be sure to participate in the Close Connection Challenge if you are able.

We are grateful for your partnership in ministry. We recognize that these are challenging times for many. We want to keep the mission and ministry of Tallowood strong as we head into the future.
