Times Article from the Pastor
Dear Community of Joy,
It is a good thing I am a fix it guy. Actually, I am kidding about that, as those of you who know me already know. As our house ages, there is always something breaking. The garage door, the plumbing, and the sprinkler system have all had problems along the way. Last week the oven started beeping and flashing a code at us. We were able to stop the sound by shutting off the breaker. I took it apart, but I'm not sure I can put it back together. It would make a great storage space, as I see it. This is disconcerting for Melanie, you understand. If the Maytag repair man of the commercial is really twiddling his thumbs, I could put him to work.
What do you do when the altar falls into disrepair? When Elijah faced off with the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel, he had to rebuild the altar because it had been broken down by disuse. In the next three weeks we will talk about rebuilding the altar of prayer in our hearts and homes. We begin this week by focusing on personal prayer every day. Then we will think together about praying with the children in our home and praying with our spouses or friends in the next two weeks.
Other things in our homes can wait. We can live without the garage door, oven and sprinkler systems. Some made it for days without electricity after a hurricane. But we cannot make it without prayer. So I urge you to prioritize your schedule to worship with us for the next three weekends on Saturday night or Sunday morning. I also want to encourage you to set aside this Sunday night as a time for you and your family to think together about the 752 plan--seven times of personal prayer, five times of prayer with kids (meals count), and twice with your best friend or spouse each week. Will you come and worship with us? Will you commit to pray? Nobody else can fix this part of your home. But God can! Pray with us.
In anticipation of all heaven breaking loose,
Duane
