Missions Ministry
The Missions Ministry mobilizes Tallowood Baptist Church to obey the Great Commandments and to fulfill
the Great Commission. It is our desire as disciples of Jesus to trust
and treasure him more than anything else. And through missions, we lovingly invite others to join us in this soul-satisfying enjoyment of Christ. Our aim is to jump into the middle of God’s activity in the world, joining in his Mission of displaying his glory through Christ among every people, nation, tribe and tongue.

Building a complete Chapel of 800 square feet in five 5 days has an amazing missional repercussion on the local mission, the mother church and the community which needs to be transformed from darkness to the light of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala was no exception. The Tallowood English speaking and Hispanic speaking churches united, and led by Ronnie Mackey, our builder from South Carolina, 25 volunteers started working. Soon the building took shape and walls were built and stuccoed. The trusses followed soon after and purlines were set and the roof was finished. Countless numbers of mortar and concrete mixes were made. Windows and glass were installed. All the electrical and lights, chairs, Lord’s Supper table and many other details were being worked on day by day. On Friday’s inauguration we counted 160 on the inside and 170 on the outside! 330 people heard the gospel preached. At least 10 decisions were made to follow Christ. Joy flowed everywhere as this chapel was answer to 19 years of faithful praying by the small congregation which had no funds to bring their dream to reality. God answered their prayers and used you, Tallowood, to make it possible for many generations to come to Christ.
What happens on a trip like this one besides building The group unites, prays together, and has fun eating and walking the streets together and everyone learns to appreciate another culture a little better. Our hearts are touched by the amazing needs of the less privileged of this world. We from America have our eyes opened to our many privileges. On this trip we ministered to many children who enjoyed being around the construction area. We shared the gospel with the kids; the hotel workers as well as others. We gave them candy but also New Testaments to read. Gospel tracts were placed in hands, pockets and homes.
On the way home I visited with Pam and Pablo Gomez, Tallowood’s missionaries to Mexico. We went to Tetela where they showed me the great need that congregation has for a chapel. The church literally meets in what we in America would call a “shack”. Pray with me about this opportunity in 2009.
