COMMITTEES AT TALLOWOOD

Tallowood is often described as a “committee” church, meaning, the members are involved in the operational and decision making processes of the church.  Listed below are the current committees and a brief description of each.  The terms of service are three years with the exception of the church directors, who serve for five, and the occasional enlistment of members to fill unexpired terms.  Committees are enlisted each summer for service beginning in October, the start of the church fiscal year.

 

ACTIVITIES-RECREATION – Plan, develop and implement recreational sports and athletic activities of the church. Plan and develop activities/recreational programs that involve all age groups at Tallowood.  Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget as well as monitor current budget expenditures.

ASSOCIATE CLERKS – To assist new members in completing membership registration during regularly scheduled worship services as directed by the Church Clerk. Assignments are based on service normally attended.

AUDITING – Have an audit of the church’s financial records made at least once a year and report the findings to the church.  Select, in cooperation with the church Business Administrator, the firm to conduct the audit.

CHRISTIAN LIFEPlan and schedule a comprehensive annual Christian Life Emphasis for the church.  Develop Christian Life programs and projects for the church. Obtain support for them, publicize them, and implement them. Plan and conduct special social action projects. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

CHURCH OFFICERS – The Church Clerk and Assistant Clerk, a Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, a Church Historian, five Directors, a Parliamentarian and the Chairman and Secretary of the Committee of Committees make up Tallowood’s Church Officers. The Chairman of the Committee of Committees serves as the Church Moderator. In addition there will be five Directors each for the Foundation and the Annex Auxiliary.

COMMUNICATIONS – Develop and implement Tallowood’s communications and public relations efforts by all means possible. Coordinate, with other appropriate committees, the development of promotional strategies, programs and activities that will enhance the growth of the church. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

FINANCE – Receive input regarding budgetary needs from various sources to prepare a proposed budget for the church. Advise committees on expenditures and periodically check the controls established by the church for all expenditures. They also see that all financial obligations are promptly paid and receipted.

INSURANCE – Recommend to the church the placing of insurance coverage deemed necessary to protect buildings, property, members and visitors. Review all policies annually and put insurance coverage out for bid at least once every three years.

LEGAL – Review insurance coverage annually and help the church determine its need for legal advice.

LIBRARY – Establish and implement the operating policies for use, maintenance and enlargement of the church Media Center. Promote the Media Center throughout the church membership and assist the director on all maintenance of books, equipment, etc. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget.  Monitor current budget expenditures.

MISSIONS – Work with the staff in the planning of the mission involvement of the church. Investigate opportunities to participate in mission projects locally and worldwide.  Oversee the missionary residence.  Work with the WMU on projecting mission opportunities. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget.  Monitor current budget expenditures.

MUSIC – Assist the Minister of Music in maintaining an effective music ministry. Develop ways to encourage musical involvement at all age levels. Act as liaison between music staff and volunteers in various areas of the ministry. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

PERSONNEL – Recommend policies for church staff and employees. Study personnel needs of the church in conjunction with called needs and propose a budget to meet those needs. Recommend salary and benefits for the whole staff. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

PRAYER – Assist the Prayer Ministry Director in providing a prayer ministry that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Assist in enlistment and training of volunteers to be qualified intercessors. Provide an acceptable prayer area with necessary communications facilities and supplies. Suggest, initiate and support all prayer emphases church-wide. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

PRESCHOOL MINISTRY – Work with the Minister of Preschool Education and Mothers’ Day Out Director in administering the M.D.O. program. Assist in providing preschool care for all church functions as necessary.  Assist in enlisting teachers in preschool departments. Adopt preschool policies and serve as a communications link between the church body and the Preschool Ministry. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

PROPERTIES – Assist church Business Administrator and Director of Facilities in the planning and execution of maintenance and improvements to church buildings, furnishings, equipment and grounds.  Assist in determining need for additional personnel in maintenance, cleaning and lawn care. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

STEWARDSHIP – Encourage Christian stewardship of the whole person: time, talent and possessions in support of the mission and ministry of the church. Develop and conduct a year round stewardship program. Communicate needs to the membership and promote subscription to the annual budget. Lead the church to adhere to the biblical basis of financial giving – the tithe. Prepare and submit a proposed annual budget. Monitor current budget expenditures.

TELLERS – Receive all envelopes and loose money from all services, place in night deposit bags and lock in church safe.  On the first working day after Sunday, open envelopes, count and verify amount, balance money to envelopes, and turn over to the church Financial Office for depositing. Some Tellers work Sundays, during and after church, while most work Mondays.
